FORGED IN TIME

Forged in Time is a short film directed by Craig Spenceley that explores how time shapes and influences Ruth's designs and practice. Take a closer look behind the jewels, and discover how time, nature and craftsmanship inspire our world of alternative fine jewellery. 

Back in 2015, Craig directed our first brand video so it felt like a full circle moment to invite him in our 25th year to collaborate on a new film. The concept 'Forged in Time' encompasses both the time it takes to meticulously handcraft our pieces but also the way nature reflects time through growth and change. Every piece we create contains within it a capsule of time.

INSPIRATION
Time is deeply linked to the inspiration Ruth draws from the natural world. From the way a barnacle grows on a shell, to the layers in rock formations, intricate coral gardens, the changing seasons or how the buds of a flower form – time has played a part in the formations of these natural elements, which in turn fuels Ruth's creativity.


MATERIALS
The precious materials we have the privilege to work with have been forming and changing over millions of years. Time is imbued within their existence, with stories centuries in the making before it ever becomes a piece of jewellery.


PROCESS
Time is also inextricably linked to craftsmanship. Slow and purposeful, we don't rush the creation process. Transforming the raw materials into precious jewels takes weeks of work built on years of experience of ancient and contemporary techniques. From conception to completion, the jewels come to life at the jewellery bench, passing through the hands of multiple craftspeople, who each bring their own expertise along the way.
