At Ruth Tomlinson, we specialise in transforming your heirloom jewellery into one-of-a-kind modern treasures. It’s a true privilege to hear the unique stories attached to these pieces, and each commission is a deeply personal process that we take great pleasure in being a part of. These encounters serve as a constant reminders that jewellery evokes powerful memories and allows us to reminisce and connect with the past.
To begin the process of reimagining your treasured heirlooms, the first step is to book a complimentary consultation with our bespoke specialist. This can be in-person at our London Atelier, or virtually for those unable to visit. You will be guided through the design options that are most suitable for your heirloom jewels, considering the jewellery styles and collections you are drawn to, the size and cuts of your gemstones, your budget for the commission, and your lifestyle choices.
Once we’ve agreed on a design direction, your heirloom gemstones will be carefully unset and a mock up provided for your approval by email, along with a quote. When we reset sentimental heirloom jewellery, you don’t need to supply us with all the stones to achieve your vision, we will source and add additional gemstones depending on the design and scope of the creation.
After the details of your reimagined heirloom have been finalised, our skilled goldsmiths will begin handcrafting your jewel using time honoured techniques at our in house workshop. Our approach to jewellery creation is sculptural, we never work from detailed drawings or digital renders - everything is crafted by hand at the workbench. This is where the organic and intricate details are formed, taking into account our signature style and the materials we're working with.
From start to finish, transforming heirloom jewels takes in the region of 12-14 weeks. Once your commission is complete, we will invite you to the Atelier to collect your new treasure. There, you can closely appreciate the intricate details and sculptural elements in person. If you're unable to pick up the finished work, we'll send you detailed imagery via email and ship your new treasure directly to you.
Our insurance will cover your jewels while they are in our possession. We recommend having your jewellery formally appraised prior to leaving them with us to ensure that they are covered at an accurate value.
Our heirloom resetting starts from £2500 for rings, from £2000 for bracelets or bands and from £1500 for earrings and necklaces. We are happy to source additional stones for these commissions to include alongside your heirloom gems.
During our initial discussions, we will provide a ballpark commission figure and request a 25% deposit to proceed with the next steps, which may include stone sourcing, unsetting your heirloom gems, or both.
For all bespoke, custom, and resetting commissions, we require a 50% deposit before we begin production. This deposit is due when we email you the confirmed quote. The remaining balance is payable upon completion of your jewel, either when you collect it or before we dispatch it. Please note that all deposits are non-refundable.
