The Making of Our Christmas Gift

This year's Christmas gift is a handmade ceramic oyster shell jewellery dish, moulded from oyster shells Ruth collected whilst in Cornwall this summer.
The concept was inspired by Ruth's own oyster shell that she's had for years and keeps her personal jewels in. "I find it so useful to have little dishes around the house, so my jewellery is always kept in a safe spot."
Ruth developed the design with the help of her friend Helen Johannessen, a fine artist ceramicist with a speciality in mould making. Helen is currently writing a book on the specialism, so will be using our oyster shell jewellery dish as a featured project!
There are so many lovely things that can be cast from nature to highlight unique forms and wonderful textures, and as so much of Ruth's work is directly inspired by the ocean, these jewellery dishes are the perfect marriage of ideas.
