Japan - worn wood - peeling paint and patterned grain

Wood was everywhere in Japan; old, bleached by weather, and worn soft. The simplicity of materials used for building and living in rural areas was striking. Wood and paper are key basic components of many built structures. I photographed some details of the grain patterns and knots. I liked the uneven planks, and the rubbed-away paint.
