Ruth Tomlinson is an independent British contemporary fine jewellery brand creating ethereal jewels imbued with an otherworldly sense of a bygone era. We celebrate an alternative to the traditional, producing jewellery that is beautifully designed, skillfully crafted, with a sense of enchantment and a touch of the unexpected. Our Jewellery
Each of our jewels is imbued with a sense of discovery. Drawn to the earth's natural treasures, Ruth Tomlinson is renowned for a celebration of unconventional beauty; transforming often forgotten stories of historic jewels into her signature designs, marked by their tiny granular intricacies, ethereal character and serendipitous imperfections.
Our jewellery is handcrafted in our London atelier by our small team of skilled goldsmiths, with Ruth at the helm designing and making each new piece. We work with a few local suppliers who specialise in particular parts of the making process, all based within walking distance of our atelier. These low-impact methods ensure that we can actively oversee every step of the making process, while supporting the local economy and continuing to champion the traditional craft of jewellery-making in London’s historic jewellery district.

Our Ethos
We believe that every jewel should be unique, just like each of us, the individuals who wear and enjoy them. That's why we treat our materials with respect, celebrating their particular character and highlighting their special qualities, whether these are unusual internal inclusions, or the imperfect forms of hand cut antique stones. We believe we offer a unique experience and service to our customers and we cherish the relationships we form through the jewels we share a passion for.
The Team
Working alongside Ruth in the workshop we have 4 highly skilled fine jewellery bench workers crafting the jewels with care and attention using our alternative, non-traditional production techniques. Five further members look after the business, our customers, our website, and the smooth running of our atelier. We're a close-knit, hardworking bunch with a passion for what we do and how we do it!
About Ruth Tomlinson
I am driven by my passion for the earth’s treasures; the magic of minutiae, tiny intricacies, small imperfections, and the individual’s search for preciousness. I seek out the unconventional beauty within and this fuels my creativity, whether in the rarity of material or a curiosity in nature.
My inspiration is drawn from both the mysteries of historical jewels and the ephemerality of nature's life cycles from birth to decay. My work is often a response to my immediate environment, whether a fleeting moment on a train in India or being totally immersed in a single jewel at a local museum. My eyes are wide open to new discoveries and I love to observe and absorb my surroundings.
To me, working with such precious materials is a privilege. Each piece of jewellery should be unique, like each of us, and this is how I like the jewellery to make people feel. I hope to evoke a sense of wonder around the work; a modern British classic of the future, handcrafted and ready to be filled with its own story - throughout our lifetime and generations to come.
A graduate of London’s prestigious Royal College of Art, Ruth established the brand in 2001 and continues to investigate the unpredictable and push boundaries of perceived preciousness in her critically acclaimed jewellery collections. She is considered by industry experts as one of the leading influences in the current generation of UK jewellery designers, and her unique designs and luxuriously wearable adornments are conceived with the notion of being treasured forever.
